OUR MISSION

We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.

Empower youth to reach their potential

WHAT WE DO
How we do it

Our club was founded on September 13, 2014, responding to the growing need of providing youth between the ages of 11-17 the opportunity to benefit from the Toastmasters Educational Program, which helps members build confidence through public speaking, developing their Communication, Leadership and Critical Thinking skills in a friendly and supportive environment.

Our members continually help and motivate each other to do their best, guided by the Toastmasters International's values:

Integrity, Respect, Service and Excellence!

about youth gavel clubs

Gavel clubs are a way of providing Toastmasters’ self-improvement methods and materials to people who may be ineligible for regular membership due to age, inability to pay dues or other circumstances. Gavel clubs provide Toastmasters members and
clubs with an excellent opportunity for community service. They can be found in high schools, colleges, rehabilitation institutions, hospitals and elsewhere.

Youth Gavel Clubs are those organized for members under 17 years of age. The minimum starting age varies per club, but it is usually 9 years or older, depending on the ability of these young members to use critical thinking skills to provide feedback.

HOW DO GAVEL CLUBS OPERATE?

In many ways, Gavel clubs operate in the same way ordinary Toastmasters clubs do. They have the same club officer titles and follow similar club meeting protocols. Gavel club members are not, however, referred to as Toastmasters; they are called “Gaveliers.”
Gavel clubs differ in that they do not have access to Pathways education materials (they work with Competent Communication, Advanced Communication and Competent Leadership manuals), have limited access to the leadership track awards and materials, cannot participate in Toastmasters area and district speech contests and do not enjoy many of the privileges and benefits that come with full membership in Toastmasters.

HOW TO FORM A GAVEL CLUB

To form a Gavel club, a group must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Must not be eligible to charter as a regular Toastmasters club

  • Must include members who are under 18

To start a Gavel club, all groups must adhere to the following:

  • Must have the approval or endorsement of its host institution

  • Must use the program, procedures, materials and services of Toastmasters International

  • Must apply to Toastmasters International for a Certificate of Affiliation

ARE THERE OTHER YOUTH GAVEL CLUBS NEARBY?

In addition to our Junior Masters Gavel Club, there are five other clubs currently running in the Greater Toronto Area (please contact us if you know of any others to add them to the list). Make sure to visit their websites for contact and location information:

To give our members the opportunity to further enhance the skills they are developing in their respective clubs, we hold speech contests in the Spring and the Fall with participation from some of these clubs. Please check our Events page in March/April and October/November for details!

NOTE:  Because these clubs are usually at capacity and running long waiting lists, an option is to enroll kids in a Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program. To obtain more information, please contact our Toastmasters Youth Leadership Chairs at District 86 youth@toastmasters86.org or District 60 YLP@Toastmasters60.com
